BORGHESIA - Clones

BORGHESIA - Pier 46

To celebrate Tito's death, Borghesia formed in Ljubljana in 1982. Unlike their fellow Yugoslav mates, uh no, Slovenian, Laibach, in the beginning the band didn't play totalitarian EBM at all, but a mixture of white funk and ambient electronics. This second album, formerly published by Galerija ŠKUC Izdaja in 1984 is reissued by the Californian (oh yeah) label DARK ENTRIES. Could 'Clones' have something to do with the Dutch label created 15 years later ? The modernity of their sound might suggest. 11 tracks that start madly (Pier 46) but lost a little led by atmospheric thoughts of secret and homosexual love stories.

BROKEN CUPS - Slaves of the grave

BROKEN CUPS - Mindfuck

This post-synth-punk group could have been like 300 other a-likes, but the fact they're hailing from Budapest gives them a little reason to exist, a very small. This free self-produced album especially got a good ex-USSR punk feeling which we can feel in a lot of tracks (Flesh, Bank of souls, Mindfuck). It's also much better when the singer yells rather than when he takes his batcave crooner voice. A record that will surely not cause any uprising against the empire but which stays honest.

COLD CAVE - A little death to laugh

COLD CAVE - A little death to laugh

I could never beared this band who turned cold wave into indie rock. An american nightmare in short (Yes the singer Wesley Eisold extricated from the hardcore scene too). That being said, I find myself listening to their last EP a second time, less inaudible than all they've done before. The title song is very effective in the dark, despite the presence of their 'ironic' synthesizer. Song 2 is less good, too English. The third song is called "Tristan Corbière", kudos!

MARTIAL CANTEREL - Empire

MARTIAL CANTEREL - Borders crossed

Without rushing or forcing himself, Sean McBride continues to do the work. Less surprising than before, the formula begins to tire though. This record was released on his platform, XANTEN, this German city that was forever marked by the Roman Empire. Everything comes together. 6 tracks that still contain Kiev Park and the torn apart hit song, Borders crossed.

NATURAL ASSEMBLY - Arms of departure

NATURAL ASSEMBLY - 19.03.2012

In an industrial register, musical and flamboyant, this duo from London, who was seeking substance on his previous records, found athe good riddim here. Altough, this is the record label of the moment, AVANT!, that's trying to propel them. The track "19.03.2012" is very successful. To understand the inspiration, refer to the news of that day, and draw conclusions. Other songs are fitting this more electronic than noisy line, with a synth that provides one single melody and stifled vocals that remind Lust For Youth. Not Bad.

STRESS - Conspiration theory

STRESS - The pulse thickens

This discography offered by DARK ENTRIES (again) symbolizes the British phlegm, synth-pop style. This English duo that existed between 1981 and 1985 deserved anything better than two poor tapes indeed, and a mini album that nobody remembered. 11 catchy songs, the unique presence of a bass guitar permits them to juggle from top of the pops song "Down through the years" to death, "Rule of force". It's minimalist. The singer has the capacity to become either boring or cool, sometimes during one same song. Engrave that name, Stress.
